Yesterday I shared a photo of extream povert with the caption of Look, still such kind of poverty exist in Sri Lanka. At the first glance I thought it was a picture of play house where mother and farther play with their 3 kids. Later I realized it is not a play house, it is a house. Unbelievable. It made me realized that the play house we build using cushions, chairs and pillows when we were child. Eventhough It is small, it was our empire at that time. I never thought of such kind of real house. But it's true. It is a recident of five, located in Hambanthota district where 2 presidents, plenty of ministers cross over Diyawanna. They gave them piggyback ride on their way to throne. They made kings and queens, dukes and duchesses, barons and earls. But still they are shrinking with poverty. Not an ordinary poverty it's extreame poverty. Extreame poverty mainly refers to an income below the international poverty line of $1.90 per day set by the World Bank in october 2017. In another words extreame povert reflects people who are unable to access even basic life sustaing goods like foods, cloths and shelter. It is likely to affect between 9.1% and 9.4% of the world's population in 2020, according to the biennial Poverty and Shared Prosperity Report. When consider Sri Lankan context, 4.1% of the population lives below the national poverty line in 2016. Which is nearly 820,000 people when consider total population of Sri Lanka as a 20 million in 2016. In Sri Lanka, the proportion of employed population below $1.90 purchasing power parity a day in 2019 is 0.4%. Which implies approximately 84,000 individuals (21 million SL population in 2019), who are in a workforce didn't even earn approximately SLR. 340 per day. (1USD = 177.4 in 2019). But according to Department of Census and Statistics the Consumer Price Index is far more higher than their earnings and it's growth. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and service. In another terms The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure that examines the weighted average of prices of a basket of consumer goods and services, such as transportation, food, and medical care. It is calculated by taking price changes for each item in the predetermined basket of goods and averaging them. So what happen when CPI exceeds the earnings. It turn down the purchasing power of the people and push towards extreame poverty. Eventhough such high population sufferimg from extreame povert no government show more intrest of addressing extreame powerty after they win the battle. So why???? According to them extreame Poverty should exsist. It's a shared belief of world leaders as well. Eventhough United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries, the process is weaken by World leader by hidden agendas. Because they think poverty should exist. You can find plenty of benifits of povert simply by googling. There are plenty of businesses that benefit from the existence of poverty, including sellers of used goods, makers and sellers of cheap alcohol and other low-cost addictive products, as well as pawnshops, predatory lenders and other loan sharks, the “numbers racket,” and diverse gambling establishments. So most of the countries are intrested in maintaining poverty. Not only that poverty is a common political topic in most of the third world countries. Politicians use poverty as a part of their election campaign. Actually they market poverty to win the trone. The common election slogan is alleviating poverty. We can see politicians visit poor houses, chat with poverty stricken people, listen to their sorrows, Console them and promice them to accomodate them at heaven after they win. So that's the common circle of fooling poverty stricken people as voters. Not only that, they can easily manipulate poors to believe themselves, vote themselves and shaw themselves at pollitical rallies to shaw the human wealth of particular party. So it's a kind of insignificant Slavery as well. So existing poverty is very much important for success in their political career. conversely, poverty help to maintain social stability as well. Poverty helps with the recycling of goods and incompetent professionals. A population of poor helps uphold conventional norms, Moral distancing and Supply of charity balls which reflect countries use poors to raise funds. Because of above mentioned number of reasons countries keep and maintain poors eventhough having loads of disadvantages. If countries have visionary leaders rather than Short sighted leaders take steps to alleviate poverty considering it's long term disadvantages such as economic dependency, low esteem, health issues, Bribary and curruptions, crimes are some of disadvantages of having poverty.
